Which models will give it?

As in the previous year, there will be five model series with different sizes and variants at LGS OLED TVs. Here is the overview of the most important differences and introductory prices:

  • LG OLED A2 *: Cheap entry-level model with 60 Hz display, weaker image processor (Alpha 7 gene 5) and weaker peak brightness, release price: 1.699 € at 55 inches
  • LG OLED B2 *: same image processor and probably similar peak brightness as the A2, but 120 Hz and HDMI 2.1, release price: 1.899 € at 55 inches
  • LG OLED C2 *: Better Image Processor (Alpha 9 Gen 5), Higher Brightness, Evo Panel, 120 Hz & HDMI 2.1, Release Price: 2,249 € at 55 inches
  • LG OLED G2 *: similar to C2, but even brighter EVO panel with Brightness Booster, Release Price: 2.499 € at 55 inches
  • LG OLED Z2 *: 8K TV with rollable display, release price: 14.999 € at 77 inches

New sizes, higher prices

After 2021 the entry-level prices for LGS had fallen new OLED TVs, dragging this year slightly. Especially at the LG OLED C2 this is to be felt: for 55 inches you pay for 2,249 euros to the release, at the C1 it was only 1,999 euros. In part, this can be explained by new features, such as the new EVO panel at the C2. In part, the TVs simply seem to be more expensive. However, as always, the prices are relatively high for the release anyway and will certainly look better in a few months. Whether then something of the price increases will be felt, will show.

Incidentally, the release prices have not increased at all sizes, but only in the most widely used models from 48 to 65 inches. With the particularly large OLED TVs with 77 inches or more they have remained the same or even dropped. In addition, there are some models in new sizes compared to the previous year. The biggest surprise is probably that there is the LG OLED C2 also in 42 inches. The G2 should also be in Gigantic 97 inches, so far he is in this size but not yet orderable. Since the release price is at 24.999 euros, the target group is but rather small anyway.

EVO for C2, more brightness for G2

One of the most spectacular changes is that now the models of the C series get EVO panels. In the previous year, these were only used up the more expensive G series. The EVO panels introduced 2021 should enable higher peak brightness. OLED TVs are disadvantageous with high-end LED televisions in this regard, as they can burn in very bright pictures into the display. With ordinary OLED panels, the possibilities are therefore limited, the border is significantly higher in EVO panels.

The panel of the C2 should now be approximately at the level of the G1 from the previous year, while the new G2 should get an even brighter panel with a new Brightness Booster. Allegedly, a peak brightness of over 1,000 cd / m2 should be possible here. For comparison: 4K televisions of the lower price range usually have a peak brightness from 250 to 300 cd / m2. What is on the rumors, but only has to show himself in tests.

Better processors

As every year, this time a new, more efficient processor ereration will be used again. The LG OLED A2 and B2 use the Alpha 7 Gen 5, the C2, G2 and Z2 the Alpha 9 Gen 5. The new processors should bring visible improvements, including upscaling low-resolved content to 4k. However, it is not like the previous LG OLED televisions have had great problems with the upscaling. Even with content in 480p they came up well. In this respect, it remains to be seen how much the new processors can actually get out here.

The 5th generation processors should not only provide improvements in the picture, but also in the sound. So you should be able to produce virtual surround sound from ordinary 2-channel sound. The Alpha 9 Gen 5 should be 7.1.2 sound and alpha 7 gene 5 by 5.1.2 sound. How well that which comes over on the 2.2 sound system of the C2 or the 2.0 sound system of the B2 will still show.

More options for gaming

Some of the biggest innovations can not be found in hardware, but in software. The new Operating System WebOS 22 is to get a whole range of new features, such as the introduction of personal profiles. Some of the innovations should improve the gaming experience. Thus, via the Game Optimizer, specifically specially tailored display settings should be possible, it should give preferences for specific genres such as shooter and roleplaying. Also a dark room fashion for playing in the dark should be included.

HDMI 2.1

As far as the HDMI 2.1 ports are concerned, through which the PS5 or Xbox Series X Gaming in 4K resolution is possible with up to 120 fps, nothing has done compared to the previous year. From the C2 upwards you will continue to get HDMI 2.1 on all four connections, at the B2 there are twice HDMI 2.1. At the A2, which only has a 60 Hz display anyway, there is no real HDMI 2.1, even if at least Allm (Auto Low Latency Mode) should be supported again.

Conclusion

If the new panels really keep what they promise, the LG OLED C2 and LG OLED G2 could actually make a step forward again in the image quality, which would also be justified by the slightly higher prices. In the cheaper models A2 and B2, however, we can not recognize significant improvements in image quality based on the previous data. For gaming, however, the new features of the Game Optimizer could quite a difference - but of course only if one exploits the possibilities for individual adaptation.
